Mid-Centry Modern Wilhelm Kåge Surrea vase with off white Carrara glaze in a plump, skewed form. The “Surrea” stoneware series was first introduced in 1940, inspired by purism and the work of Le Corbusier. It challenged the aesthetic ideals of the time and received both praise and critique. With time however, it became a Swedish stoneware classic.
Kåge's work was not only popular in Sweden but also gained international acclaim. His pieces were exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Today, Kåge's ceramics are highly sought after by collectors.
